About Our Keynote Speaker
A renowned educational consultant, education advocate, and activist, Dr. Cynthia Butler-McIntyre is the 24th national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Butler-McIntyre is a retired human resources director for the Jefferson Parish School System in Harvey, Louisiana. For more than 20 years, she supervised the system’s 3,500-plus classified employees.
She has impacted the lives of countless youth and employees as a kindergarten teacher, assistant principal, summer school principal, and personnel administrator in her school district.
Her professional experience includes serving as the executive director of the Tech-Prep Summer Program at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, Louisiana. She also has worked as the assistant coordinator of field experiences and supervisor for early childhood student teachers at the University of New Orleans.
The New Orleans native received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Dillard University, a Master of Education degree from the University of New Orleans, and an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Christian Bible College of Louisiana.
She has received numerous recognitions for her service, including board membership of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, the state secretary of the Louisiana Association of School Personnel Administrators, and the founding president of the Algiers-Gretna branch of the NAACP.
In 2011, she was appointed by President Barack Obama as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation.
Butler-McIntyre served with honor as president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority from July 2008 to July 2013. In June 2013, the sorority named an elementary school in Cherette, Haiti, in her honor.
Among her national affiliations are the National Board of the NAACP and the National Board of the National Council of Negro Women. She is also a member of The Links, Inc. and the National Association of University Women.
